Midweek Reminder

“Promise Yourself”

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

  1. I love this! I committed this to memory decades ago but had forgotten about it–thanks so much for the reminder…Hope that your week is going well…Aloha, Lori

  2. Wow, Andrea, this is what I needed today. Crazy coincidence, I handwrote this very poem 40 years ago and gave it to my Mother when she was going through divorce from my father. She recently gave it back to me and I have the worn piece of paper, complete with flower doodles and written in my teenage girl handwriting, under glass on my bedside table! So great to read it here. Hugs to you and your family and peace to you. xoxo

    • Me too! I have been going through such a tough time and seems to be going on FOREVER. I needed to get off this path of chaos and this poem has always helped to remind of what it is I need to do to change.

      My favorite line is:
To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
      to every person you meet.

It is so easy to get lost in all the bad and forget there is so much beauty in the world.

      Here’s to better days!!!
